Mallplaza boosts its presence in Colombia and opens their second shopping center in the country


With and investment of COP$226.000 million (US$81 million), the shopping center chain opened Mallplaza Manizales, located in the heart of the coffee belt of Colombia. It will generate 1.300 new jobs during operation and it represents the twenty-second shopping center of Mallplaza in the region.


Manizales, Colombia. 16th of August 2018. A leasable space of 40 thousand squared meters, the biggest Falabella store in the region and more tan 150 brands are part of the value proposal that starting today Mallplaza Manizales has to offer, the newest shopping center that the chain has opened in Colombia.


“We are very happy with the opening of Mallplaza Manizales because it represents the interest of our company to strengthen and deepen our presence in Colombia, a country where we see multiple growth opportunities. We hope that this space will become the favorite place to go in the coffee belt and for that we have designed an innovative and differentiating commercial and gastronomic proposal”, explained Fernando de Peña, Executive Vice-president of Mallplaza.


In Mallplaza Manizales the chain wants to reflect the “retailment” concept, developed in all of their new shopping centers, and that is why the company has made several efforts to integrate a retail offer, with more tan 150 commercial stores, with a strong offer of entertainment and gastronomic options, with two specialized districts for this purpose, in tune with the identity and preferences of the citizens of Manizales.


“We have been very respectful with the spirit of Mallplaza of developing meeting spaces, social hubs that reflect the local identity. In the Manizales case we want to turn it into a live, fun and diverse public arena where we will not only highlight the coffee culture and tradition, but also be a contribution to the local development through the execution of an Employment Plan that will allow us to hire, when the shopping center is at full operation, more than 1.300 household female leaders, young people and older adults”, De Peña explained.


As a continuation of their concern and strong commitment with the environment, Mallplaza Manizales is LEED Core & Shell certified, which proves the efficient use of materials during construction and a high standard operation in terms of energetic efficiency, water reduction and residual water management.
